NEW VICAR GENERAL

Mgr. J. C. Cooke for Salford

Mgr. John Cuthbert Cooke, M.A., Rector of St. Bede's College, Manchester, has been appointed Vicar General of the Salford diocese in succession to the late Mgr, Canon McGuinness.

Mgr. Cooke succeded the late Mgr. Gonne as Rector of St. Bede's in 1938 and was previously vicerector of the college, where he has spent practically all his priestly life. He made his early studies for the priesthood at St. Bede's, going later to Ushaw and Cambridge.

Mgr. Cooke was created a Domestic Prelate in 1945.

Born in Macclesfield, he was ordained in 1914.
