Denying the sick rights

AS a member of the working party and signatory of the National AIDS Trusts UK Declaration of Rights of People with HIV and AIDS, I was greatly heartened to read your leading article "Prejudice dressed up as Christianity" (August 30).

Whereas the UK declaration seeks to empower and uphold the basic rights of all people with AIDS and HIV, the Conservative Family Campaign's HIV Charter would deny those rights and, masquerading as a "Christian viewpoint", further attempts to oppress and alienate people with HIV through prejudice, and gross misinformation.

Hopefully the MPs associated with this campaign will heed your call for them to resign and work towards a Christian pastoral response to the needs of people with HIV/AIDS.
