Y.C.W. IS ALL SET FOR`ROAD TO RIO'
r,..ROUPS of Young Christian Workers throughout Britain who were given the task earlier this year of raising funds for delegates to go to a World Council of the Y.C.W. movement have now raised the required sum-£1,500.
Britain will thus be represented at the Y.C.W. World Council by Miss Mary Goggins, Y.C.W. delegate from Blackburn, Lanes, and Mr. Cyril Pickering and Canon Edmund Arbuthnott, Y.C.W. British President and Chaplain.
'The Council will he held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, November 1 to 11, and it will concern itself directly with the problems affecting the young worker of 1961.
The first report will analyse the situation of working youth throughout the world in relation to the fantastic.: developments which have taken place over the past four years-the emancipation of Black Africa, technical progress (automation and the conquest of space)-as well as the action the Y.C.W. movement has taken to ensure that the human dignity of all young people is respected.
PLANS
The place of the family in society today and the preparation of young workers for marriage will be studied in the second report. Mr. Romeo Maione, International President, will then present a report on the mission of the Y.C.W. and its relations with other worker organisations.
Finally, a second, Four-Year Plan will be proposed for the adoption of the members of the Council. The principal lines of this will be: the launching of an international campaign on the preparation of young people for working life in the modem world; a definite programme of permanent international mutual aid for young' workers; a plan of study and research on the specific problems of young workers in large cities; and the collaboration of the Y.C.W. with international organisations.
After the Council, the delegates will assist at the General Assembly of the First National Council of the Brazilian Y.C.W., studying the distressing problems that burden the working class youth of Brazil and presenting reports to the authorities.
