'WELCOME' RALLY FOR CARDINAL IN BIRMINGHAM

CARDINAL GODFREY is Birmingham Archdiocese The Cardinal will travel from London to Birmingham tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon and will drive to Wolverhampton where at 5.30 p.m. he will be formally received as Exarch at the Ukrainian church.

The Cardinal will then address the Ukrainians and later that evening will call on the Mayor of Wolverhampton. He will be staying the night at Archbishop's House, Birmingham.

SELLY PARK

On Sunday morning, at 10.30 a.m., the Cardinal will take part in a ceremony at St. Paul's Convent, Selly Park. in connection with the presentation of the document of his appointment as Cardinal Protector of the Sisters of Charity of St. Paul the Apostle (Selly Park).

These Sisters have 80 convents in England, four in Ireland and two in South Africa. Their work is teaching, nursing the sick and caring for orphans and aged, instructing converts, and other parochial work.

On Sunday afternoon the Cardinal will attend a diocesan rally of welcome in the Birmingham Town Hall.

After an organ recital by George Miles and a concert, the Birmingham Catholic Choir will sing Fere Sacerdos Magnus as the Cardinal arrives.

He will be welcomed by Archbishop Grimshaw of Birmingham. to pay an official visit to the this weekend.

Mr. K. I. Mackey will speak for the laity. 1 he Cardinal will then re ply and give his blessing. The proceeds from this function will be given to the Lord Mayor of Birmingham's Appeal for World Refugee Year.

At 6.30 p.m., His Eminence will he present at the evening service in St. Chad's Cathedral, at the end 'of which he will give Pontifical Benediction.

That evening, he will drive to Oscott College, where he will dine with the Rector, professors and students.

On Monday morning the Cardinal will call upon the Lord Mayor of Birmingham at 10 a.m.. and at 11.30 will assist at the annual Solemn Requiem Mass for the late Archbishop Masterson.

After lunch with the diocesan clergy at the Grand Hotel. Birmingham, the Cardinal will again visit St. Paul's Convent, Selly Park, after which he will return to London by train.
