EDINBURGH

MGR. WILLIAM THEODORE " HEARD was born in Edinburgh in 1884. His father, a clergyman, was headmaster of Fettes, a leading Edinburgh school.

Fie went to Balliol College, Oxford, where he studied for a degree in law. While there he became a rowing blue. In 1910 he became a solicitor and practised in London. The same year he was received into the Church.

In 1913 he went to the English College, Rome, where he was ordained in 1918. He stayed in
