NEW BISHOP OF PORTSMOUTH Enthroned at Winchester

The new Bishop of Portsmouth, Mgr. John Henry King, was enthroned on Tuesday last in St. Peter's church, Winchester. The ceremony was held there because Bishop's House and Portsmouth Cathedral have been damaged in air raids.

The Ordinary was received by the Canons of the Chapter to whom he presented the decree of his appointment which he had received from the Apostolic Delegate, in place of the usnal Papal Bull. He was conducted to the throne by the Provost and enthroned. The Fe Deum was then sung and the Canons and other clergy made their obedience and paid homage to the Bishop at the throne.

This was followed by the installation of the new member of the Chapter, Canon Dorran, formerly an Honorary Canon, Diocesan Inspector of Schools, and parish priest of Basingstoke. Afterwards a meeting of the Chapter was held.
