WEST END, LONDON

There have been so many complaints about the way musicals dominate commercial theatre that it is good to be able to point out that at this moment it is possible to see 10 good plays in the West End by Alan Bennett (Enjoy), Arthur Miller (A View from the Bridge), Bud Schulberg (On the Waterfront), Alan Ayckbourn (Woman in Mind), Richard Greenberg (Three Days of Rain), Joe Orton (Entertaining Mr Sloane) and even Shakespeare (Twelfth Night and The Taming of the Shrew). Plus Tom Kempinski (Duet for One at Almedia) and Andrew O’Hagan (Be Near Me at Donmar).
