SWISS GREET ST. BERNARD'S NEW ABBOT

SWISS and Communal flags and Papal bunting hung above streets deep in snow when the new Abbot and Provost of the Great St. Bernard Hospice went to Martigny in the Catholic Canton of Valais for his abbatial blessing.
The whole population went en Pte, and in the main street a band in picturesque uniform played rousing music as the Abbot, Mgr. Angelin Lovey, entered the parish church escorted by Bishops, prelates, abbots, clergy, councillors, senators and magistrates.
To become Provost of the hospice, Mgr. Lovey had been recalled from the territories of General Chang Kaishek, to which he had fled from the Communists after 17 years' missionary work in Tibet.
Press photographers wandered discreetly about the sanctuary during the Mass, which was broadcast. Mgr. Nestor Adam, C.R., former Provost of St. Bernard's, presided, and Mgr. Lovey was assisted by Bishop Charriere of Lausanne and Mgr. Haller, Abbot of the Canons of St. Maurice and titular Bishop of Bethlehem,
In Canon's scarlet choir capes, 90 members of the order made their obedience to their new Superior during the singing of the Te Dem.
In falling snow, a procession of children, soldiers, police and civil authorities from surrounding Cantons wended round the town. finally assembling before the church for the abbot's blessing.
