Islands of Britain

ITV, 9PM, SUNDAY MAY 3

Martin Clunes nearly drowned while making this documentary about the 1,000 or so remote, rocky and sometimes strange islands that surround the British mainland. In episode one he heads to the Shetlands and Muckle Flugga, a lighthouse rock that is the most northerly point in Britain, where the Atlantic and North Sea meet. Unsurprisingly it’s not the sort of place one could easily light a cigarette or go to the loo. After that it’s off to Forvik, Unst, Eigg and Barra, names that reflect Scotland’s diverse Norse and Celtic influences. Ed West
