King Arthur

BARBICAN HALL, 7.30PM, WED MAY 6

The Barbican’s celebration of the 350th anniversary of Purcell continues with King Arthur, a semi-opera first performed in 1691 with a libretto by John Dryden. Its source material is not the Arthurian legends of Camelot but historical battles between the Britons and the invading Saxons.

Soloists including tenor James Gilchrist and sopranos Susan Gritton and Deborah York join the acclaimed period ensemble Le Concert Spirituel, conducted by its founder Hervé Niquet.
