Royal patronage for organist Legge

THE Duchess of Norfolk is to be the Patron of an organ recital which is being given on May 20 at 8pm at St Joseph's Highgate Hill, London, by Nicholas Legge.

Proceeds from this recital will go to the roof restoration fund of St Joseph's.

Born in 1942 Nicholas Legge first studied music with a pupil of Cara Schumann. Later he went to the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with Dr Douglas Hopkins and Arnold Richardon. Whilst at the RAM he gained diplomas both as a performer and teacher and was twice awarded the Academy's Certificate of Merit for his performance in the annual

examinations.

During this time he was appointed organist of the University Church. On leaving the RAM Mr Legge went to Paris to study with Marcel Dupre, Maurice Durufle and Jean-Jacques Grunenwald, after that he went to the Pontifical Institute of Music, Rome, to study church music with Don Carlo RossiM.

Nicholas Legge has travelled widely in Europe, Africa, and America as a recitalist and broadcaster.

Mr Legge is organist of the Church of St Elizabeth of Portugal, Richmond and teaches at St Aloysius' College, Highgate.
