SIXTY YEARS ago the Knights of St Columba set up their Council 128 in Wandsworth, and to mark the occasion a special diamond jubilee dinner was held last month in the White Eagle Club, Balham.
His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Alf Jessiman and Mrs Marie Jessiman, and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Andrew and Mrs Grant (incidentally, all Catholics) were guests of honour.
The chairman for the occasion was Mr William Gallagher, who has for the past 12 years served on the governing body of his Trade Union, the GLSCA., According to the newsletter of St Thomas a Becket Church, Wandsworth, the four Grand Knights of St Columba in Wandsworth Borough, which includes Tooting, Roehampton and Battersea, were_ joint hosts. The guest list included Provincial Grand Knight Mr Joseph Tuke, and Mrs Tuke, Mr Albert Steiert, Provincial Action Convenor, and Mrs Steirert, the Dean, Canon W O'Riordan, local Dean Canon W Clements, KHS, Rev A Carette SDB, from Battersea, Rev W Gallagher from Earlsfield and Rev John Laverty, Chaplain to KSC Circle 128.
Some 407 gentlemen have been members of the KSC Circle 128 since it was established 60 years ago.
