FOR FOUR years the Garrick Theatre was the home of No Sex Please, We're British. A dozen years earlier Brian Rix took a lease of the theatre for several seasons of farce. After the war Robertson Hare, an expert in dropping his trousers, amused audiences there in the company of Alfred Drayton.
Now Ray Galton and John Antrobus have written a play which comes straight to the
point in the title, When Did You Last See Your...Trousers? I suspect that the Garrick Theatre, where the play opened recently, must now have some kind of record for displaying male actors in a variety of underpants. I cannot recall any previous play in the genre in
which the actors display their undergarments almost continuously as they did in this play which stars William Gaunt, Susie Blake and Michael Sharvell-Martin.
Perhaps it is a sign of the times that merely losing your trousers on the odd occasion is no longer funny. I must admit that I laughed despite the fact that the play is very trite.
