ISLINGTON'S church leaders last Monday formally joined with caring agencies and police at the launch of a new "Church Watch" project which will pledge church resources to efforts to stem crime, drug abuse and domestic violence.
Catholic Bishop Victor Guazzelli of East London opened the meeting at the St Luke's Centre, Central Street, which also heard a talk by Prebendary Clive Taylor, Chaplain to the Metropolitan Police on the relationship between the police and the Church.
Chief Superintendent Michael Jeffers of the King's Cross Road Division said that with the cooperation of the churches "There are lots of initiatives we can undertake such as bereavement counselling and the care of the elderly. I would like to encourage congregations to participate in projects such as the Victim Support Scheme," which provides help for former offenders and victims of violence.
