mergau. where.. since the middle of the last century, the performances every 10 years of the Passion Play have drawn an increasing number of visitors.
But this Passion Play year coincides with the year of the 37th International Eucharistic Congress, which the late Pope Pius XII decided should take place at Munich, Bavaria's capital on the Isar. Here Cardinals, archbishops, bishops, priests, monks, friars. nuns, and lay people from the whole Catholic world will gather to express and increase their devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. The theme of the Congress is "For the life of the world", taken from Our Lord's words in St. John's Gospel (vi: 51-2):
AM the living bread
which came down from heaven. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh. for the life of the world." The Congress opens on July 31 and ends on August 7. On the opening day the Congress will be inaugurated half of the week, from Thursday to Saturday, bishopsof different countries and rites will celebrate Solemn Pontifical High Masses every morning in the chief churches of the city.
