GERMANY AND FRENCH ELECTIONS

From Our German Correspondent The advance of communism, the outstanding feature of the first ballot in the French general election, is of course the main object of the comments in the German press and on the wireless. It gives an opportunity to repeat once again that Germany since the nazi revolution has become Europe's stronghold against bolshevism. The unanimous vote of the German people for Adolf Hitler is compared with the confusing quarrels and the extraordinary number of candidates in the French election campaigns.

Special attention is paid to the election results in Alsace-Lorraine and to the obvious success of the Elsiissische Volkspartei (Union Populaire Republicaine). That is due, said the German radio news, to be fact that the party insisted on the need for Franco-German reconciliation, on the danger of the Franco-Soviet pact and on the defence of the German culture and the regional interests of Alsace-Lorraine. _ A pastoral letter dealing with Ecclesiastical Education is to be read in the churches and chapels of the Diocese of Southwark on Sunday next, when the annual collection will be made for the education of ecclesiastical students.
