From Our German Correspondent Dr. Ley, head of the Labour Front, after studying the Fascist Dopolavoro institution on a trip through Italy, has started a somewhat similar organisation, and called it Kraft durch Freude ("Strength through Joy").
This institution is rapidly becoming the most remarkable achievement of the Labour Front.
The idea behind both the Dopolavoro and the Kraft durch Freude is to deal with the worker and the employee in his leisure hours and his holidays, to organise his amusements, theatre visits, study classes, sports, holiday tours and so on at cheap prices. It is at the same time a wonderful method for controlling people in their private lives and preventing them from indulging in "dangerous" political activities.
Cruises and Seaside Resorts
Dr. Ley is organising for several hundreds of thousands of people cruises to the Norwegian fjords, and even, for special publicity purposes, to Madeira. In this way many laid-up German liners can be utilised. In addition Dr. Ley has recently ordered special ships for his organisation.
On the island of Ruegen in the Baltic Sea, Kraft durch Freude is building a seaside resort for its members, where hundreds of thousands of people can spend their holidays at cheap prices and under nazi supervision.
