IN his annual appeal for the Leeds Rescue, Protection and Child Welfare Society, Bishop Dwyer of Leeds says that the schoolchildren of the diocese gave the record sum of £6,134 in response to his appeal last Lent.
An accompanying letter to teachers of the diocese from Mgr. Canon J. J. Kelly, V.G. says that the surn raised in the appeal of 19 years ago was £700. "One immediately realises", he says. "not only the greater generosity of the children and their parents but also the greater sympathy and goodwill of the teachers towards the work undertaken by the Rescue Society."
