A former PoW gets papal honour

A POLISH BORN parishioner of St Theresa's church, Biggin Hill, has been given the Papal award Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice.

Mr Jan Jay, chairman of the Parish Council, served in the Polish airforce during the early years of the war and was taken captive by the Russians. When the German army invaded Russia he escaped to Canada and from there settled in England. He was presented with the award by Archbishop Michael Bowen of Southwark following a Mass to mark the parish's Golden Jubilee and the blessing of the new parish hall.
