Swindon head honoured

Mr Cyril Greenough, headmaster of St Joseph's Comprehensive School, Swindon. has been awarded the Papal honour Pro Eceksia et Pontifice for his outstanding work in the field of Catholic education. The medal was conferred on September 8 by Bishop Mervyn Alexander of Clifton, at a ')concelebrated Latin Mass at Holy Rood Church, Swindon. Sixteen clergy were on the altar and a large congregation filled the church.

When Mr Greenough was appointed as headmaster of St Joseph's in 1958 it was a secondary modern school. It subsequently (1964) became the first school in Wiltshire to be reorganised along comprehensive lines.
