THE first buildings in the Arch
bishop bishop of Zaragoza's scheme to build 10 new parishes in the city's suburbs were due to be opened on the Feast of Our Lady of the Pilar last week,
Designed to help the poor of Zaragoza, the new' parishes consist of living accommodation, church, grammar and vocational schools, a dispensary, centres for the care of children and for Catholic Action activities, recreation halls and housing for priests and teachers.
The Archbishop himself started the project a couple of months ago by celebrating a special Mass and then going to work with a pickaxe.
The scheme is being helped by gifts of money and material and the voluntary sparetime labour of more than 1,000 men.
Spiritual benefits are already reported. Many people away from the Sacraments have been able to receive the Last Sacrament because of the nearness of priests in the new parishes.
