Royal touch for head of the Beda

ARTIST Michael Noakes has produced a striking portrait (left) of Mgr Roderick Strange, rector of the Pontifical Beda College in Rome.

Mr Noakes is famous for his portraits of the Royal family, but he has also produced notable paintings of senior Catholic clergy, including the late Cardinal Basil Hume, ninth Archbishop of Westminster.

Mgr Strange was chairman of the National Conference of Priests and has served as chaplain at Oxford University.

He was also director of Religious Education in the Diocese of Shrewsbury and was on the bishops’ conference working party on appraisal for priests.

The Beda was founded in 1852 to form older candidates for the priesthood.
