Rexists Firm About Colonies

From Our Belgian Correspondent.

A Belgian warning to Germany in regard to her colonial claims was uttered by two deputies of different parties during the parliamentary debate on the Belgian Congo Buldn presenting the Budget Report, M. W. sKaoelman, a member of the Catholic Party, id :

" Almost every day the press reports statements concerning Germany's colonial ambitions.

" The Congo, which the genius of a great King and the heroism of our fellow country-men have made Belgian, is Belgian and must remain Belgian.

" And it will need force of arms to oblige Belgium to yield even an inch of its territory."

Missionary Genius

During the debate, a Rexist member, M. Pierre Dayc, contributed a remarkable speech on the colonial policy and the Government administration in the Congo. He ably exposed and denounced the action of the trusts which, he said, hampered the small producer and violate the rules of normal enonomy.

He approved without reserve, on behalf of the Rexist Party, what the Catholic Deputy Koelman had stated about the foreign policy in these words: "It is well that Belgium's attitude be clearly defined in face of Germany's The tribute this Rexist Member paid to the Catholic missionaries in the Congo deserves recording: "And I must render homage most particularly to the representatives of the various religious Orders who are accomplishing for the development of the civilization of the Congo a task as remarkable as was, in the Middle Ages, the safeguarding of moral and intellectual life by the great Christian institutions."
