Two Bishops at opening of Northampton church
Built in the simple style of the Roman basilicas, Northampton's new Church of St. Gregory the Great was opened last week by Bishop Parker.
Fr, Eric M. Phillips, the parish priest, travelled in 1950 to Ravenna to see the style in its perfection, and it is the Church of St. Francesco in that city which has inspired the architect.
An electronic pipeless organ was specially built by a Northampton firm and has been named "The Gregorian."
The non-Catholic Mayor and Mayoress of Northampton (Alderman and Mrs. W. A. Pickering) walked in procession to the new church for the opening with Bishop Parker. Bishop Rudderham of Clifton and Dom Basil Butler, Abbot of Downside.
