FRENCH GIFTS FOR GERMANS

French and Swiss Catholics have recently sent valuable gifts to their coreligionists in Germany

Following the French National Eucharistic Congress at Nancy, some 20.000 parcels—including vestments for Cologne Cathedral from the silk city of Lyons—have already been distributed.

From Switerland, consignments of books for the libraries of German seminaries, novitiates and abbeys have also arrived.

A Catholic printing firm in Wuertemberg, South Germany, turned down an order from the regional Communist Party for election campaign posters on the grounds of the recent Vatican decree prohibiting the dissemination of Marxist literature.

Canon Franz Mueller has been appointed provisional President of the German Caritas Union by Car dinal Frings. Canon Mueller was responsible for supervising the rebuilding of Cologne Cathedral after the recent war, and was administrator of Caritas in the British Zone of Germany.

Some 15,400 German children, held in Poland after their parents were evicted. have been reunited with their families since 1945 by the German Welfare Organisations.
