Nick Clegg meets head of festival

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg MP met Catholic community leader Lawrence Hennigan, president of the Levenshulme Festival, at an event in south Manchester on Thursday, November 3.
Mr Hennigan presented Mr Clegg with a copy of the festival’s 48-page brochure and was able to brief him on the festival’s history and achievements.
Mr Clegg said: “I was delighted to hear about the success of the Levenshulme Festival. Festivals like this are great in bringing communities together. I was also pleased to have received my copy of the impressivelooking brochure. This Government are very keen to see events like this and I congratulate the organisers.” Mr Hennigan said: “I was delighted to get an opportunity to talk to the Deputy Prime Minister about our annual celebration of all that is great about Levenshulme. The festival has gained friends across all political parties. The backing of the Deputy Prime Minister is particularly welcome and is the icing on the cake after our most successful festival ever.” This is the second time that Mr Clegg has visited Manchester in the last few months. He visited the city in August after the riots and was struck by the community spirit in the city.
During his latest visit, he spoke of how impressed he was by the community cleaning up the city. Festivals like the Levenshulme Festival can only enhance his good impression of Manchester.
The popular 17-day annual festival is now in its 13th year.
