On Thursday, November 10, Cardinal Hinsley distributed the prizes to the pupils of St. Bernard's Central School, in the Canon Ring Hall.
After an entertainment reflecting great credit on the children and their teachers, which gave a pageant of the history of London through the ages, the prizes were distributed and the Cardinal addressed the crowded hall.
" I am having a day off," he said. He congratulated the children and their teachers on their work, and the entertainment, and spoke in tones of warm praise of Canon Ring.
" He excels in so many ways, and does so many things extraordinarily well," said the Cardinal.
Referring to the teachers and their profession, the Cardinal said that they were artists in immortal souls—and in their teaching personality counted most, and in building personality knowledge, faith, loyalty were the guiding principles.
The Canon Ring Hall, which seats 600, was crowded to capacity, and hundreds filled the corridors and the verandah.
