The Archbishop of Canterbury this week called for a Minister for the Family with 320 divorces for every 1,000 marriages in Britain last year. Opening a debate in the House of Lords on Wednesday on the continuing importance of the family, Dr. Coggan named the trivialisation of sex as well as bad housing and unemployment as causes of the breakdown of the family. He quoted Jack Dominian, the Catholic psychiatrist and author, to show how Christian attitudes to sex were no longer negative and condemning.
