re 1,• • LL YUGOSLAV Catholics packed their churches in record numbers for the Easter Masses.
But Tho's Belgrade newspaper Borha chose Easter Sunday to remind Communist Party members of their duty to convince non-Communists that religion has been disproved by science.
The paper published an article by Ivan Regent, a member of the Party's central committee, restating the Communist attitude towards religion and declaring that Yugoslavia guarantees tolerance and religious freedom for all, but refuses to grant special secular privileges such as are demanded by the Vatican for Catholics.
It recalled the Marxist teaching that religion is an outworn survival of primitive ignorance and reminded Communists that they are bound to educate people to discard religion in favour of science.
