FORGOTTEN BISHOP

Still in Danzig jail

MGR. Carl Maria Splett, the for

gotten Bishop of Danzig—the port which Hitler chose to begin his war of nerves on Poland — is still in a Communist prison despite reports that he has been released.

Mgr. Splett was sentenced to seven years in jail in 1946 on a charge of collaboration with the Nazis.

The Polish Communist Press recently reproduced a facsimile page of the Vatican year-book to prove that the Bishop was still considered the legitimate Ordinary of his diocese. This, according to Communist interpretations, " confirms his high treason."
