CAFOD's treasurer Anthony Jennings is among Catholics honoured in this year's Birthday Honours' List. He receives the OBE. Among other Catholic names of note are a knighthood for Conservative MP Dennis Walters, who has represented Westbury for 24 years, a CBE for soprano Valerie Masterson, and a life peerage for TV watchdog and former editor of the Times, Sir William ReesMogg.
Other Catholics honoured include: Major General SRA Stopford, late of the Scots Dragoon Guards, Companion of the Bath. CBEs — Brigadier RCJ Dick, late of the Royal Tank Regiment; Brig Mary Hennessy of Queen Alexandra's Royal Auxiliary Nursing Corps; and Professor Kelly, ViceChancellor of the University of Surrey.
OBEs went to Cdr JC Ballentine; Lt-Col WB HughesJones; Sr Perpetua Callaghan of St Anthony s Hospital, Cheam; Anthony Coyle, leader of Wigan Borough Council; the Countess of Iddesleigh, President of Devon British Red Cross; Fr JJ O'Farrell of the Royal Navy Reserve at Dundee; and Br John Sreenan, headmaster of the Christian Brothers' St Boniface School in Plymouth for the past 15 years.
