MBE for Welsh headmaster

THE HEAD TEACHER of St Joseph’s Cathedral primary school, Swansea, Peter John Richards, who recently retired after 33 years as head, was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours last month. Mr Richards transformed the city school into a place of excellence.
He looked after nearly 700 children, ran football teams and trained athletes. Promoting Catholic education and the school were his prime motives, and encouraging each child to “reach for the stars”. Mr Richards’s wife, Kath, teaches in the infant school as does one of his three daughters.
