Czechs Refuse Envoy Visa

The Czech Government, by its refusal last week-end to give an entry visa to the new Vatican envoy to Prag'ie, Mgr. Paolo Bertoli, threw a furtner strain on the taut relations between Church and State.

Mgr. Bertoli was assigned to Prague after the departure on July 12 of his predecessor, Mgr. Verolino, whom the Communists had accused of "grave interference " in internal affairs. For nearly two months the new diplomatic representative has been awaiting the issue of his visa in Berne.

Sole Vatican representative left in Prague is the Secretary of the Nunciattire, Mgr. Ottavio Deliva, whose personal assistant is a Czech priest, imprisoned in July on unspecified charges.
