Wanstead jubilee

The Mayor, the Mayoress, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, Aldermen and members of Wanstead and Woodford Borough Council will attend officially a Mass celebrated in the presence of Bishop Beck at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Wanstead.
The celebration is for the silver jubilee of the church and the Mass will be at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday.
Bishop Beck will preach.
The first Mass centre for Wanstead was opened in 1910. In 1918 some nuns opened a school and the Mass centre was moved there. The first Mass was celebrated by Fr. John Petit, now Bishop Petit of Menevia.
Bishop Ward of Brentwood made Wanstead a separate parish in 1919 and Canon Basil Booker became the first parish priest.
The foundation stone of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes was laid by Bishop Doubleday in 1927. Fr. J. V. Hemming is the present parish priest.
