JOHN MIDDLETON MURRY Sta,—I should like to thank you for

your appreciation (CATHOLIC HERALD, May 2) of John Middleton Murry's weekly commentary in Peace News. May I, at the same time, correct a false impression which some of your readers may have received from the statement, " Now I see that he is resigning, apparently because of the pressure against him by the Peace Pledge Union"?

It is true that some pacifists have taken strong exception to Mr. Murry's views: but the only official " pressure" brought to bear upon him was that of the Peace News Directors—urging him to continue writing the Commentary, after he had resigned the editorship six months ago. And at the recent annual general meeting of the P.P.U., a motion censuring these views was soundly defeated.

I would not like it thought that pacifists as a whole were less capable than others of evaluating " one of the most acute and most honest of contemporary political commentators."

F. A. LEA, Editor, Peace News.
