SSIR.-Mr. Dapre has written that tie "hears from all sides of the inability of Catholics to withstand the unmerciful approaches of Jehovah's Witnesses!" This is not the first letter in your columns to suggest that methods of intransigeance are necessary to deal with this sect which, we must grant, does get around. I have had four visits from Jehovah's Witnesses. Visitor Two was an 'expert" sent by Visitor One. who finally admitted that he was an ex-Anglican who had never really given his own church a fair try. With Visitors Three and Four, long after, I simply opened a conversation about Scripture. Prayer, and Charity, lubricated with a pot of tea, and our encounters were most courteous and friendly There was no followup.
It is just possible that we sometimes adopt a manner which arms our "adversary", whereas friendliness can be so disarming.
