Refugees flee war zone

THOUSANDS of Liberians, driven out of their country, because of civil war, are seeking refuge in neighbouring Sierra Leone.

The UN High Commissioner puts the figure at about 50,000 with many escaping the conflict between President Charles Taylor's government and a rebel group.

Sierra Leone has expressed concern over the increasing number of refugees on its border, fearing conflict because of cultural differences between the two peoples.
