OVERSEAS NEWS IN BRIEF Fr Calciu flees
ROMANIAN Orthodox priest, Fr Georghe Calciu-Dumitreasa flew to Rome with his wife and son last week. The are seeking to emigrate to the US, the three have suffered harassment and pressure since Fr Calciu's release from prison last August.
Saintly Pope
POPE Paul VI has been suggested for beatification. 'the proposal came from Cardinal Sebastiano Reggio last week, during a Mass which marked the seventh anniversary of the Pope's death.
Guatamala vigil
A FAST and vigil is held today at the Cathedral in Guatemala City for all those who have "disappeared" in Guatemala. The vigil is organised by the Mutual Support Group of relatives of the 35,000 missing Guatemalans.
Priest on bail
A BRITISH priest charged with smuggling heroin out of Pakistan was freed on bail last week. Fr Kenneth Tucker, of Twickenham, Middlesex, had been a missionary in Karachi for three years.

POPE John Paul II voiced "vivid disapproval" at the Mafia murder last week of an Italian deputy police chief, Antonlno Cassara.
Tito's critics
TWO Roman Catholic priests were arrested last week in Yugoslavia, for having been disrespectful to President Tito. Both Fr Ivan Ujevic and Fr Emmanuel Jurio were sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Priest sued
A US Episcopalean priest has been sued fur £3,650,000 for allegedly violating the secrecy of the confessional. Rev William Rankin apparently informed police when Mrs Sheridan Anne Edwards confessed embezzling £20,500 from the church's women's guild.
