A letter received this week by the Cemoi a Hietein from Fr. Henry Parkinson, Provincial Superior of the English Congregation of the Holy Ghost Fathers is addressed to all the wonderful readers of this paper who joined to contribute £1,254 9s. towards the church being built in the picture we reproduce above.
This is the church at Gboko in the Makurdi diocese of N. Nigeria about which Fr. Parkinson wrote in the Certiotic Fisent D when he returned a few months ago from a tour of Holy Ghost Missions. If you remember, the present "church"—a school. is so crowded that most of the congregation are forced to stand outside. Pictured here with the plans in hand and a pile of bricks at the ready is Fr. Robert Sherwood, C.S.Sp., who sends "his most sincere thanks".
Fr, Parkinson's letter ends on a grateful but slightly sad note: "I have lust received letters from two more of the Fathers who must begin to build permanent churches for their Missions—Fr. Rooney at I,afia, and Fr. Toner at Udei. Neither has a real church. They must build now yet they do not know at all where the money will come from." Well, if this should catch the eye of a millionaire...
