Church in

memory of

Pope John

Catholic Herald Reporter

ENGLAND'S—and perhaps the world's — first church in memory of the late Pope John XXIII is to be built in Guy Road, Beddington, Surrey. where a new site has been bought. Work on the church, to replace the farm building being used at present, will start next month.

Fr. Charles Ward, of St. Elphege's. Wallington, which serves Beddington, told me this week that Roman remains have been discovered close to the site of the new church. He thinks it quite likely that more will be found when the new Church's foundations are sunk.

The Church is to be built in two stages, and work on the first half is expected to be completed next year. Fr. Ward has launched an appeal fund to pay for it.
