Pope Paul suspended all private audiences for an eight-day period ended on Thursday, the feast of the Assumption. Sources close to the Pope said the reason for the suspension was that he was under pressure of a heavy work schedule, partially in preparation for the second session of the ecumenical council, which begins in St. Peter's on September 29.
