Newspapers don't give Unions a fair Press

British newspapers present a distorted picture of strike-ridden industries, and of the "diabolical" shop stewards responsible for the damage which occurs.

Sir William Carron, president of the A.E.LI., made this accusation when he addressed the Oxford University Newman Society last week on the subject "Industrial Relations Today".

He quoted statistics published by the International Labour Organization to show that, among highlyindustrialised countries, the United Kingdom takes second place after Germany for the least days lost in strikes.

Sir William warned his listeners, however, that the United Kingdom's high place in the tattle was not an excuse [or complacency.
