Half a million pounds it has been estimated. will be needed to build schools for the growing Catholic population of the County Borough of Southampton. Some of this money is needed for replacements, and will qualify for a 75 per cent grant from the State. hut the extensions and new schools needed will have to be paid for with parish funds.
There is only one aided Catholic secondary school, St. George's built in 1958, and there are two grammar schools. Of the three Catholic primary schools available. two date from the last century. At least three areas of the borough. recently developed, need entirely new schools.
