WHITSUN AND HOME RULE IN N. NIGERIA

BISHOP MACCARTHY. S.M.A., of Kaduna, will preside at solemn Pontifical High Mass to be held in the open at Kaduna Cathedral on Whitsunday to mark the achievement of self-government by the Northern Region of Nigeria. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Reddington, S.M.A., of Jos, and Mgr. J. Hagan, C.S.Sp., Prefect Apostolic of Oturkpo, will preach.

All the bishops of the Northern Region will be present at this Mass, at which prayers will be offered to ask the blessing of Almighty God for the Government and the peoples of the Region. Members of the Government and Parliament will occupy special places before the altar.

Solemn Masses will also be celebrated at all provincial and divisional headquarters throughout the region and at all Catholic mission centres, and religious processions will be held.

A display of photographs in three different places in Kaduna-at the Cathedral, at St. John's Secondary School. and at the Sacred Heart Training College— will show Catholic activities in the fields of education, medicine. and social welfare in the Northern
