ONE thousand five hundred Liverpool school children taxed the capacity of the Metropolitan Cathedral crypt last Saturday to hear Archbishop Heenan tell them of the importance of learning. Mostly from grammar schools on Merseyside they are all due to take public examinations this summer. Mass .was offered for their success and they joined in the dialogue. Hundreds of them received Holy Communion.
The Archbishop stressed the importance of being able to defend their faith in argument, but also of being able to join in discussions on secular subjects. The more knowledge they acquired the more valuable they would be as citizens. '
In the autumn it is intended to arrange another Cathedral Mass in thanksgiving.
