CARDINAL HUME has set up a special advisory committee to help him plan the Church's commitment to the black community and to prevent racism in the Diocese of Westminster.
The group is not confined to Catholics but consists exclusively of black people who have served the community in education, local government, the probation service and other fields.
Their first task will be to begin a process of consultations among black Catholics in the diocese, to discover their real needs and concerns and to make recommendations for action.
The diocese has been able to help and work with the Caribbean Pastoral Service, a chaplaincy formed in the late 60's, but it is now felt that the time has come for a wider embracing organisation.
