SUPPORTING an amendment in the House of Lords, denouncing the Bill abolishing the GLC as a "dangerous precedent", the Anglican Bishop of Rochester, Dr Richard Say, said that London Church leaders including Catholics found the Bill offensive as a parliamentary procedure. He was referring to the statement made last week by the London Church Group and signed by Bishop Philip Harvey, as reported in the Herald.
Both Cardinal Hume and Archbishop Bowen of Southwell are known to be concerned about the consequences of the bill for the poorest sections of the community.
