to close

The Scottish bishops have decided to close two of the four seminaries in Scotland. St Vincent's College in Langbank will close at the start of the 1978-79 school year. All minor seminarians will be trained at St Mary's College in Blairs.
The bishops have not decided which major seminary should be closed, but it is expected that one of them — St Peter's in Cardross or St Andrew's in Drygrange — will also be closed in 1978. Increased running costs because of inflation and a decline in the number of students in the major seminaries 'were given as reasons for the decision.
The Scottish bishops also have two major seminaries abroad — the Scots College in Rome and the Royal Scots College in Valladolid, Spain.
