BISHOP GALVIN, of the Mill Hill Fathers, who was one of the 14 missionary bishops consecrated in St. Peter's, last May by Pope John, on Sunday ordained 19 students of St. Joseph's Foreign Missionary Society to the priesthood and 25 to the subdiaconate.
The ceremony. which took place at St. Joseph's College, Mill Hill, was unique insofar as the Bishop had been Rector there for the past three years and was now ordaining the students he had trained.
Bishop Cialvin, first Vicar Apostolic of Miri, will leave for Sarawak in the autumn.
Later in the year 28 memhers of the Society, priests and brothers, will leave for missions in Africa, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Borneo. Sarawak, New Zealand and the Falkland Islands. Among them will be Fr. Peter Galvin, brother of the bishop, who is going to the Philippines, and Fr. Gerard Dunne, late rector of Burn Hall, Durham, who goes to Sarawak. The new Rector of Mill Hill is Fr. Thomas Sheridan, who has been recalled from Sarawak.
Among the newly-ordained priests who have received their first mission appointments are: Fr. Peter Flannery, of Rawtenstall, Lancs., to New Zealand ; Fr. Francis Foley, of St. Helens, to Ngong (Masai country): Fr. Peter Windram, of W. Hartlepool, to Jesselton, N. Borneo; Fr. James Daley. of Middlesbrough, to Tororo, Uganda.
