Avatar fails to impress LʼOsservatore and cardinal

THE VATICAN’S newspaper has panned the blockbuster film Avatar which opened in Rome last week.

The £187 million movie about an alien planet was described by L’Osservatore Romano as “technology without emotion” in a highly critical review.

It had “numerous captivating special effects but little true emotion, that is human emotion... visually there is impact but the plot is stale”.

The film, about a marine who infiltrates a race of giant blue aliens, combines live action with digitallyenhanced performances.

Cardinal George Pell of Sydney dismissed the film as boring. He said it was preachy but probably harmless and called it “oldfashioned pagan propaganda”.
